The atrocity called for introspection and humility. Instead we got bravado and arrogance. After saying we were attacked “for our freedom”, the government proceeded to “protect” us by taking it away.
Brilliant! A woefully needed account of what prompted 9/11 and the nefarious response to the incident, the effects of which have rendered us "suspects" of our Patriot Act-fueled police state and even indoctrinated cheerleaders for the forever wars initiated by our Aggression Industry. Your sane indictment of our government's insanity, Mr.Breen, makes you the August Landmesser of our time. Thank you.
I will be watching with interest as to the rebuttals of Your write up. You know TDS versus TDS. Truth is truth and truth always hurts the ones that believe other wise.
Your assessment of Bush's tar baby accelerating the on-going decline of America is the best I've encountered.
The only omission has to do with his inexplicable decision not to change the DEFCON.
Roughly thirty days before 9/11, Bush was informed by his counter-intelligence director that the US had creditable third party intelligence that Islamic terrorists were preparing to use airplanes as flying bombs.
Had he changed the DEFCON by one level, the FAA would have required airports to conduct more rigorous baggage inspections.
We'll never know if any baggage inspector would have found the box cutters that any of the Saudi (primarily) groups of religious extremists used to turn the various airliners into instruments of death and destruction.
What we do know is Bush needlessly attacked an Islamic country -- Iraq -- that we had long since neutralized; had nothing to do with 9/11 and, in so doing, unleashed Iran's fundamentalists who, two decades later, have turned Trump's foolish confrontation with Iran on behalf of Israel into a quagmire from which we refuse to extricate ourselves.
A totally ignorant and therefore entirely gullible population (certain exceptions in Atlanta excluded) with governmental actors caring only about their own profits during their tenure (some, if not the majority of them being eligible for high-treason) is an easy prey to a highly intelligent but evil, supremacist folks that has the best possible knowledge of how to lead the public perception to their specific aims.
{...Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Lebanon and Iran...} are their main enemies; the rest of the planet, currently being of secondary importance.
Failed education, consumerism, hijacked institutions and a greedy, totally corrupt "elite" in the military-financial-pharmaceutical-media-research complex make it a cake-walk to take advantage by extracting trillions of hard-earned tax-payer's money for utterly nefarious purposes ...
Unfortunately, it is rather doubtful that the "system" can be reformed in any positive way.😪😪

Thank you, Ken.
