I have not watched the film "the killing fields" but I have visited Cambodia on multiple occasions.

I was offered a tour of the killing fields where I was told I could rent an AK 47 and get 100 rounds of ammunition to shoot at chickens. The alternative, was the upgrade to a cow to use as target practice.

Needless to say, I declined the tour.

I recall visiting Saxenhaus death camp near Berlin. The thing that struck me was that no bird would fly over that place nor was there any sounds from insects.

Evil lingers...

Words escape me. we humans are both amazing and bestial.

History of which man kind will not learn from . This to me is one of the evilest things that man can do . It actually makes my inside to be in turmoil. Good thing that I do not have any "power".

Many thanks for reminding us what "Western education" can catalyze not only domestically but also in enhanced forms, far away foreign lands ... 👍👍👍

It's an apt primer to desensitize us for the things ahead, this time on an almost global scale with much more safe & effective hi-tech.

mRNA-producers come to mind ...

Prove me wrong !!!

You've crafted an appalling reminder of the innate capacity for viciousness that characterizes our species.

Pity too all the other species with which we share this planet.

For the first time since life originated on this orb, our species alone has the capability to eradicate all other species at will.

Based on the ever on-going wars among ourselves replete throughout humanity's recorded history, I do not foresee that a live and let live peace will ever exist among us much less with all other species.

More atrocities are ordained, but hopefully none as inhumane and as atrocious as those waged by the Khmer Rouge

Thanks for this detailed, insightful essay, found via www.LewRockwell.com. An astute reminder that Utopian ideals always lead to dystopia.

Of all governing systems, even 'democracy' seems a farce, nevermind our US corporatocracy. Western economic sanctions and wars have killed 30 million, since WW2.

I didn't vote for that! It's not that complicated; as long as we don't take into account the heartbreaking history of non-Western countries, such as you describe, we are doomed. The causes don't matter, because we have lost.

Our systems contribute to ongoing murder and mayhem. In my opinion, we must wake up to the truth about our shared humanity, and our responsibility. Create peace in our own lives, since we cannot literally kill the Deep State or the MICIMATT.

There has to be a better way, it starts with awareness and genuine desire to change ourselves individually at first. Was it Tolstoy who opined: "Too many want to change the world, and too few themselves." Essays like yours spread truth and awareness, keep up the excellent work!

Ah, just found the right quote, I was paraphrasing Tolstoj: "Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself."

I still remember the photos in color of those fields. Incomprehensible...
