Last week was the latest act in our political circus, with Dr Fauci back under the Big Top. But rather than walk a tight rope, he settled into the safety net.
It was a revealing dodge for someone who loves the limelight. For years he sought the center ring, from which he told countless lies his “diary” contradicts.
Fauci’s defenders denounced the revelations as an invasion of privacy, as if someone broke into his house and stole the journals from under his bed. But these are official documents. They’re less a “diary” than daily logs prepared by Fauci and his aides. They weren’t “leaked”, but were legally obtained from government servers.
This week the author had nothing to say. After years pretending the Constitution didn’t exist, Fauci finally discovered an amendment he found convenient. But we mostly know what he wants to hide.
Smothering Society
Fauci took refuge in the Fifth Amendment despite receiving a pre-emptive pardon that ostensibly removes risks self-incrimination could create. Fauci claims he invoked the Fifth to avoid prosecution for perjury. But before the pardon he’d given sworn transcribed interviews on these same questions, and stopped only after receiving immunity for his answers.
From his diaries, we know Fauci knew all along what some of us were scorned for saying from the beginning. As the virus (the origins of which he helped facilitate and cover-up) initially spread, he intentionally exaggerated fatality rates by as much as ten-times. And he did so under oath before Congress:
Maybe this wasn’t intended to stoke fear, accrue power, and procure fame. But had that been the desired objective, it’s hard to determine what he’d have done differently.
Fauci’s testified fatality rates were dubious even at the time, especially after two cruise ships served as floating labs of elderly people exposed to the virus. The death rates on those ships were more like a bad flu than a black plague.
But, like Georgia re-opening (what The Atlantic called an “Experiment in Human Sacrifice”) a couple months later, those vessels became control groups “The Science” wanted us to ignore.
With collaboration and impetus from Anthony Fauci (and Donald Trump who, after all, was supposed to be in charge), states began to lock down. Though he subsequently denied it, Fauci’s diary boasts that he was actively involved in smothering society.
He coordinated with California and New York to shut those states. When they went, others followed. Those who implemented Fauci’s policies now defend what they did as doing “the best they could given what they knew”. But they showed little humility at the time. Certainty reigned, with those who questioned it adamantly denounced.
Fauci already admitted masking and “social distancing” guidelines “weren’t based on science and just appeared”, even though people were harassed (or arrested) for not obeying them.
Yet within months Fauci went from acknowledging masks were meaningless (or worse), to suggesting we wear two. Most Americans ignored the contradictions and kept doing what he said.
Fauci assured us the “vaccines” would prevent contraction and transmission. In his diary, Fauci acknowledged the shots weren’t stopping spread. Yet he publicly pretended they did to sustain a legal basis to compel consumption:
Reversing eons of human instinct and civilizational tradition, children were forced to sacrifice for the old. Those who hadn’t taken the “jabs” (most of whom were at no risk from getting sick) were told to do so to protect people who did.
Claiming “mitigation measures” were meant to protect others was a way to shame dissenters as “selfish” and uncaring, even when it was obvious the measures made no difference (as illustrated by this quiz). Allowing fans into football games didn’t turn stadiums into open-air morgues. Removing masks from plans didn’t convert aircraft to flying coffins. Open states weren’t giant cemeteries.
But the demonization worked.
Public sentiment was frantic… a hysteria Anthony Fauci (and the sycophantic media) perpetuated. The “un-vaxxed” were equated with drunk drivers, even though those who’d taken the shots had supposedly removed themselves from the road. Careers were destroyed, friendships wrecked, and family relationships ruined.
A Criminal Offense
Vaccine mandates never made sense. If the shots worked, requiring them was unnecessary. If they didn’t, it was pointless. It was like insisting that if I don’t wear glasses others won’t be able to see.
But for Fauci’s purposes, it was ingenious. “Public Health” essentially turned personal liberty into a criminal offense. Americans were expected to treat mitigating one threat (which was insignificant to most of them) as their only priority. No one could be free unless everyone was “safe”. After all, we were “all in this together”.
Everyone’s medical needs, personal preferences, and susceptibility to risk were assumed to be exactly the same. From the top, government bureaucrats dictated the treatment all Americans were supposed to accept.
In several cities, those who refused were prohibited from participating in many aspects of public life. Schools, restaurants, entertainment venues, government buildings, and many corporations were off-limits to un-vaxxed vermin. To pressure people to take the shots, Anthony Fauci pushed this apartheid.
Cardinal Richelieu
There was nothing constitutional or “democratic” about any of this. Every covid policy was an executive decree or bureaucratic demand.
No mask mandate, stay at home order, school closure, or injection edict was ever passed by statewide initiative or legislative vote (not that they’d have been legitimate if they were). They were all imposed by petty dictators under the auspices of “The Science”, with which Tony Fauci equated himself:
“... attacks on me quite frankly are attacks on science, because all of the things that I have spoken about consistently from the very beginning, have been fundamentally based on science.”
But this was a strange “Science” that always tilted one direction, overriding obvious evidence to expand power and line pockets. Individual discretion was never an option.
Fauci doled millions in grants to connected universities, drug companies, and “public service” agencies. He personally received about a million dollars in prize money for this generous dispersal of our money, plus his shares of royalties from drug patents.
Arrogance pervades the diaries, which ooze an almost psychotic obsession with fame:
“Big front-page article abut [sic] me appeared in the Washington Post, [Dr. Fauci wrote]. Very flattering. The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable. It is not hyoperbole [sic] to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable peson [sic] in the world.”
Covid was the greatest moment of his life. Celebrities gushed. The media fawned. “Journalists” were essentially his stenographers. He adorned covers of fashion magazines. His “fans” bought his bobble-head. Dr Fauci reveled in his fame.
As long as the “pandemic” continued, his power was unchecked and celebrity assured. He had no incentive to declare it over, which is why he was livid when any of his “recommendations” were resisted or repealed.
He was the Cardinal Richelieu of the Covid Regime.
F-Bombs
But in last week’s circus, Fauci wasn’t the only clown. Rand Paul deserves credit for calling this hearing, and continually holding Fauci to account. Yet almost every other Senator was part of the farce.
When it mattered… when President Trump and Dr Fauci were issuing states of “emergency”, urging lockdowns, restricting travel, and imposing mask mandates anywhere they could… few Republicans offered any resistance. Democrats did so only as a way to undermine Trump.
They called no votes, demanded no impeachments, and voiced no opposition till conventional wisdom started to shift. Even then, like last week (only less vehemently), it was all just talk. They hold no one (including themselves) to account.
For good reason. Except people like Thomas Massie and Rand Paul, these clowns were culpable too. Donald Trump was outraged when Massie dared demand an in-person vote before squandering hundreds of billions of our dollars to bribe us to stay home. Most of his colleagues were infuriated by this small dose of procedural sanity.
Now Senators berate Fauci by dropping F-bombs to boast their bona fides. Our current president suggests he always opposed what his employee did. But the president at the time bragged about it:
Watching Fauci squirm was great. But I doubt much will come of it. Why would it? Our elected “representatives” were complicit too. Most are paid to be. They could’ve prevented this. Instead, they stepped aside or went along, greenlighting governors to suffocate their states.
It’s fine to enjoy Fauci being embarrassed. But while laughing at the honking horns and squirting flowers trained on Tony Fauci, don’t be distracted from the make-up, red noses, and floppy shoes of others in the room.
